A dessert? The "Tarte Tropézienne"
Created in 1955 by Polish pastry-maker Alexandre Micka, this soft brioche tart with an inner layer of irresistible cream and sprinkled with sugar is one of the symbols of the Saint-Tropez lifestyle.
A word? Torpes
According to legend, Saint-Tropez owes its name to the knight Torpes. Refusing to recant his Christian faith, this Roman centurion from the court of Emperor Nero was executed, his body thrown into a rowing boat which drifted as far as the Saint-Tropez shore.



A season? Summer
Saint-Tropez is the French Riviera’s chic, up-beat destination for stylish holidays on the Mediterranean shore. On the programme, sunshine, beaches and partying, but also cultural and historic discoveries.
A celebrity? Brigitte Bardot
Filmed in Saint-Tropez, the movie Et Dieu… créa la femme (Roger Vadim, 1956) was a turning-point in Brigitte Bardot’s career. A few years later, her song “La Madrague” became a hit that people still hum today in summer.
A book? La naissance du jour by Colette
In 1925, Colette acquired a house in Saint-Tropez, on the Bay of Les Canebiers, where she spent many summers. The setting, was a source of inspiration for her work, including her autobiographical novel, La Naissance du jour.
An animal? A cockerel
A cockerel was placed in the boat with the body of Centurion Torpes. It is said to have been found in a field of flax a few kilometres from Saint-Tropez. The “coq au lin” thus gave its name to the village of Cogolin.
An event? Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez
From 24 September to 1 October 2022 and from 2 October to 8 October 2022, the event, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, welcomes all classic boats, without size limit, and modern boats up to 18m28.
A landscape? The beach of Pampelonne
With its turquoise water and golden sand, the legendary beach of Pampelonne in Ramatuelle is everyone’s dream. Stretching from Cap Saint Pierre to Cap Camarat, it is one of France’s most beautiful beaches.
